TO SERIES: BACKSTROM Pilot Starring Rainn Wilson Goes to Series on FOX – Updated

IF

UPDATE  Showrunner Hart Hanson says Backstrom will do a few days of pilot reshoots in [April] and then start filming the other 12 episodes in [late June] (dates subject to change).

From Bones showrunner Hart Hanson, Backstrom (Rainn Wilson) is a detective version of Dr. House — self-destructive, offensive, irascible and brilliant of course . Based on the books by real-life Swedish criminologist and novelist Leif G.W. Persson, producers shot a Backstrom pilot in Vancouver in the spring of 2013 and had their own Backstrom baseball caps made, clearly expecting to go to series on CBS. But [the business deal at the Procedural Network fell apart] and the pilot seemed dead until today when FOX picked it up as a 13-episode series.

Backstrom shot in several locations in downtown Vancouver. Above is a scene of Backstrom wearing an orange rain slicker, walking out of the Marine Building dressed as the Portland Police station. He stopped to light a cigar in the rain falling from a giant rain tower above and then walked north down Burrard Street. Earlier, Wilson and co-star Dennis Haysbert filmed a scene in an alley off Cambie Street below.

Dennis Haysbert, Kristoffer Polaha, Page Kennedy and Beatrice Rosen are expected to return for the series but Mamie Gummer will not continue with the show.
