TRAILER: CineCoup Film Accelerator Winner WOLFCOP in Theatres on June 6th

Half-cop half-wolf all-WolfCop the movie will be released in Canadian theatres on June 6th, almost a year to the day that the Regina team won $1-million in production financing in Vancouver-based CineCoup’s inaugural Film Accelerator. Here Comes The Fuzz in the WolfCop trailer released on Friday.

CineCoup Film Accelerator: 90 teams from every region in Canada submitted two-minute trailers and then began weekly filmmaker missions last March designed to help them package a pitch and build an early fan base with social media tools. Soon after, a trailer with clips from the entrants started a year-long run in 1200 Cineplex theatres nationwide. Over several rounds of fan votes, the 90 whittled down to ten last May, with six of the finalists from Vancouver –Alien Abduction, Bad, Grade Nine, Scam, The Fall and The Mill and the Mountain.

The final five — Vancouver’s Alien Abduction, Bad and Grade Nine, Edmonton’s Uprising and Regina’s WolfCop — pitched to a panel of film industry professionals (including uber-Canadian filmmaker Robert Lantos) at the Banff Media Festival last June  and WolfCop won the $1-million in production financing and guaranteed theatrical release.

What is WolfCop? Dirty Harry ….but hairier? Filmmaker Lowell Dean’s Saskatchewan-made movie is about alcoholic cop Lou Garou (Leo Fafard) who doesn’t find it unusual to black out and wake up in a strange person’s bed but lately things have gotten weirder. Crime scenes seem familiar. His senses are heightened and when the full moon is out, he’s a raging werewolf. Half cop. Half wolf. All WolfCop.

I first saw a teaser for WolfCop at the CineCoup-sponsored The Last Cook with Breaking Bad showrunner Vince Gilligan held at the Vancouver International Film Festival Film & Television Forum last September.

You may have spotted a WolfCop booth at last weekend’s Fan Expo Vancouver or this weekend’s Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo with director Lowell Dean, monster maker Emersen Ziffle and actor Leo Fafard on hand. Their next stop is Fan Expo Regina on May 3rd and 4th.
