TV PILOTS: Cameron Crowe’s Showtime Dramedy Pilot ROADIES To Film Here Next Year

backstage

Update: Roadies filmed its pilot in Vancouver but series in Los Angeles.

Cameron Crowe’s dramedy pilot Roadies about the crew members working behind the scenes for a famous rock band is set to film in Vancouver early next year. The former teen Rolling Stone writer turned film director returns to his roots as told in his semi-autobiographical film Almost Famous about the fictitious band Stillwater above.

If greenlit to series by Showtime, this will be Cameron Crowe’s first TV series after a successful film career spanning Fast Times at Ridgemont High to Say Anything to Jerry Maguire. He and executive producer J.J. Abrams have been talking about telling the stories of the crews who keep everything going “working feverishly with eight phones on their belt” for some time, Cameron told The Hollywood Reporter. His Roadies writing-producing partner Winnie Holzman boasts teen classic My So-Called Life on her resume. Casting is underway and I will add to this post with the names as they are revealed.

Roadies is scheduled to film in and around Vancouver from January 19th to February 11th next year (dates subject to change).

Update: Roadies did begin filming January 19th on location in the Pacific Coliseum in east Vancouver.
