BIG BUDGET: Steven Spielberg’s THE BFG with Mark Rylance as Big Friendly Giant Expected to Start Filming March 23rd

Legendary director Steven Spielberg’s next project is a big-screen and big-budget live-action adaption of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic The BFG, with Mark Rylance as the Big Friendly Giant. In the 1982 book, the people-friendly giant (Rylance) teams up with a little girl (10-year-old Brit Ruby Barnhill) and the Queen of England to capture evil, people-eating giants invading the human world.

Does today’s news that Walden Media is on board to co-finance and co-produce The BFG mean production will begin later this month in Vancouver? The movie has been on local film lists for a while under the code name The Big Valley but not considered a sure thing.

Expected Vancouver filming dates: March 23rd to June 16th (Subject to Change).
