UPDATED AND REVISED:

In The Walking Dead’s Los Angeles-set companion series Fear The Walking Dead the zombies are “fresher” and still look human which makes it much more difficult to stop them.  What would you do if  if someone you love became one of these walkers? And you didn’t know what was wrong with them. How long would it take you to realize that this loved one was not alive anymore? Not a person anymore?

“Everyone’s trying to deal with the fact that people they know and love are suddenly behaving in [odd] ways, while also trying to process the fact that there are shootings, fires and riots breaking out across the county,” showrunner Dave Erickson told TVLine.

The six-episode companion series tells the story of the beginning of the zombie outbreak through the eyes of a dysfunctional blended family: widowed high school guidance counsellor Madison (Kim Dickens) and teacher Travis (Cliff Curtis), who’ve moved in together with their children — Madison’s druggy, dropout son Nick (Frank Dillane) and academic standout daughter Alicia (Alycia Debnam Carey) and Travis’s angry son Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) who’s mad at his Dad for splitting from his Mom, Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez). Other characters include Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades), his wife Griselda (Patricia Reyes Spindola) and his daughter Ofilia (Mercedes Mason). Over time the companion series will catch up to the full zombie apocalypse of The Walking Dead.

Last night’s scene: Travis drives his pickup truck full of people past the Sisters of Mercy Hospital (Surrey School District building) which looks like a disaster area with smoke rising from the roof, flashing lights, crashed ambulances, flashing LAPD squad cars and hospital patients and staff running in terror. Gunfire rings out. Who’s shooting whom?

Update: But the Los Angeles walkers don’t have the same level of decay and don’t look like monsters. They’re fresher.
