What is it?
Star Trek Beyond began building its gigantic Kent Hangar Field set in stealth several months ago, using old Kimball production signs from Tomorrowland — some hand-written. It worked for a while until the magnitude of the set became apparent to Bob Glassford and Christopher VanCauwenbergh. Who else could it be but Star Trek: Beyond?
Screencap.
Star Trek Beyond is in metro Vancouver this summer along with the Enterprise crew — Captain Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho), Chekov (Anton Yeltin) and Scotty (Simon Pegg) plus undisclosed Villain (Idris Elba), undisclosed Villain #2 (Joe Taslim) and undisclosed Female (Sofia Boutella) — to film the third installment of J.J. Abrams’s rebooted franchise with the production code Washington. Production was delayed after director/writer Roberto Orci bowed out but got underway in late June with Justin Lin (who revived the Fast and Furious franchise) directing. Simon Pegg co-wrote the script. Most of the filming takes place in studio on brand new Enterprise sets built from scratch at Vancouver Film Studios but there are some on-location shoots.
Like this gigantic set with porcupine-quill logs under construction now covered in dirt and bark. Stacked shipping containers will hide the set from the road.
