DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, a 16-episode mid-season CW show, is about time-master Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) who assembles a squabbling group of DC super hero and villain misfits from the Arrow and The Flash-verses — Ray Palmer/ the A.T.O.M, (Brandon Routh), calculating Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), resurrected and haunted Sara Lance/the White Canary (Caity Lotz),  brilliant Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber), pyro-manical Mick Rory/Heatwave (Dominic Purcell), Kendra/Hawkgirl (Ciarra Renee), Carter Hall/Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Jay Jackson/the new Firestorm (Franz Drameh) — to try to stop Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) who threatens the planet and time itself.

Who is Vandal Savage? “He‘s an immortal, shadowy figure who’s been slyly winding his way through history and never attracting the direct attention of the world of mortals but at the same time …affecting events, ” showrunner Phil Klemmer said. “He’s been at all those moments…when history is hanging in the balance.” It’s up to the Legends to “intercept him throughout the ages [week after week] for the purpose of saving the world.” It doesn’t go smoothly: “Half the time we’re trying to correct the things we’ve screwed up along the way.”

Who is Rip Hunter?  “He’s from a future he’s not particularly happy with,” Darvill told the NYCC crowd. “He’s come back for various reasons to get this rag-bag team of nut cases together.”

New to Central City, Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) is working as a Jitters barista on The Flash sizzle reel.

Who are the Legends? A crazy collection of characters who’ll travel through time on a flying spaceship with a fabrication room on the ship that will allow them to go out into various time periods with a wardrobe match. Legends of Tomorrow will be “broken down into chapters where we’ll go back to a specific time and place.” We’ll see the 1950s. We’ll see the 1970s with the White Canary in go-go boots.  “We’ll see facism, terrorism…maybe we’ll see dinosaurs,” joked Klemmer.

What about romance? Any time people are in close quarters in life and death situations “weird things happen,” Klemmer confirmed as Arthur Darvill interjected: “There’s a no clothes policy on the ship as well . . it’s pretty racy.”
