Hello Dearies. The 15th annual Whistler Film Festival will honour Robert Carlyle — Once Upon a Time’s Rumplestiltskin — with the WFF 2015 Maverick Award on December 5th ahead of the North American Premiere of his directorial debut, The Legend of Barney Thomson. What is his film about? Boring Barney Thomson (Carlyle), a Glasgow barber bullied by his formidable mother (Emma Thompson), is suspected of being a serial killer. The dark comedy won Best Feature Film at the recent BAFTA Scotland Awards.

Robert Carlyle has enjoyed an illustrious career so far, starring in classic films like Trainspotting, The Full Monty, The World is Not Enough and Angela’s Ashes and television series like Hamish Macbeth in the U.K. He came to Vancouver for a lead role on Stargate: Universe but is best known now as Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin on Once Upon a Time. The modern-day fairy tale series has been filming in metro Vancouver for four-and-a-half seasons and made the village of Steveston world-famous as its Storybrooke.

And next summer Carlyle will be filming the sequel to Trainspotting which reunites him with Ewan McGregor and director Danny Boyle twenty years after the original.
