BIG BUDGET: POWER RANGERS Movie with Naomi Scott, Becky G, RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin & Dacre Montgomery Delays Filming in Vancouver to Late Winter

Morphin Time on the big screen will be a bit later than expected. Lionsgate has pushed back the Power Rangers’ start of production in Vancouver to the end of February 2016 and the movie’s release in theatres to March 24, 2017.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have been around since the early 1990s.The pop culture phenomenon launched in 1993 as a TV series about a group of teens who can morph into super-powered primary-coloured warriors and is still in production two decades later, with an ever-changing cast. More than 200 actors have been on the series, including Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston as a voice actor, Amy Jo Johnson, Brandon McLaren, Eka Darville, Adelaide Kane and iZombie’s Rose McIver as a Yellow Ranger (production of the TV series moved to New Zealand in 2003).

Lionsgate’s big-budget Power Rangers movie has cast Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger and Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger.

Becky G has been cast as the Yellow Ranger.

 

RJ Cyler has been cast as the Blue Ranger.

 

Ludi Lin has been cast as the Black Ranger.

 

Dacre Montgomery has been cast as the Red Ranger.

 

Naomi Scott has been cast as the Pink Ranger.

Dean Israelite will direct the film based on a script by Ashley Miller and Zack Stenz and franchise creator Haim Saban will produce.

Filming is expected to start in Vancouver on February 29th and wrap May 25th next year (dates subject to change) with the production code SHIRT via the Directors Guild of Canada-BC Production List.
