Ready for more Fifty Shades Darker filming in Gastown? In the sequel, Seattle-billionaire-with-singular-tastes Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) tries to win back the-girl-who-said-No Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). Production started last Tuesday at its Seattle Independent Publishing (SIP) set, where Ana Steele gets a new job as assistant to SIP publisher and Christian Grey rival Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson). Who is Hyde? He and Christian were troubled boys together in the same orphanage until the wealthy Grey family adopts Christian not Jack. Hyde makes good but not at the same level as Christian and takes out his frustrations on Ana — sexually harassing her.

Fifty Shades Darker’s casting of Eric Johnson in the big role of Jack Hyde came as a surprise. Johnson (no relation to Dakota) has worked in Vancouver on Smallville and Alcatraz but is best known as Detective Luke Callaghan on Toronto cop drama Rookie Blue (see below). Lately Johnson has recurred on acclaimed early 1900s New York medical drama The Knick as a young medic.
Production is scheduled at the Seattle Independent Publishing (SIP) set in Gastown for four more days of filming — three this coming week and one the following week.
Nearby is the Fifty Shades sequel’s secure and screened circus. Production sign = CURRY.

The latest polling letter has exteriors overnight on Friday, March 4th, and interiors on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 8th and 9th. ** But the City of Vancouver didn’t give permission for filming past curfew so dates and times will change.

Sequels Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed are expected to shoot in metro Vancouver for five months from mid- February to mid-July, with Fifty Shades Darker expected to film in Paris for a few days too.

The first film in the trilogy, Fifty Shades of Grey, grossed more than half a billion dollars worldwide on an estimated budget of $40 million. James Foley will direct the back-to-back productions based on scripts by Niall Leonard, husband to the erotic trilogy’s author E.L. James.
Filming started February 16th and is expected to wrap July 12th (dates subject to change) according to the Directors Guild of Canada-BC list. Production code is Further Adventures of Max & Banks 2 & 3.
Fifty Shades Darker will be in theatres on February 16, 2017 and Fifty Shades Freed opens a year later on February 9, 2018.

Expect Jamie Dornan will be in Vancouver in March. But I’m not the right person to ask. I cover filmmaking and don’t go beyond that. Sometimes hear where actors are staying but it’s not something I pursue.
Do you know when Jamie and Dakota will be filming the “The Jose Art Gallery scene or the Ana and Christian getting back together at her Apartment scene ? Love the book2 , hope it’s as close as possible to it.
