Can Kate Winslet and Idris Elba survive a Kootenay January? The winter survival romance A Mountain Between Us is filming in the British Columbia mountain town of Invermere this month. East Kootenay Film Locations and Production Services did some local hires last year to construct the set and scenery and filming starts today. But as the Columbia Valley Pioneer discovered, the set is closed to the public.
The Mountain Between Us is adapted from the Charles Martin book. Photojournalist Alex Martin (Winslet) and surgeon Ben Bass (Elba) have never met before, but they have at least one thing in common: both need to get back to Baltimore. She’s getting married the next day; he’s to perform emergency surgery. When their flight out of Denver is cancelled they charter a small plane which crashes on a mountain. How will they survive in freezing temperatures and snow? Both are injured, but Ben is a mountain climber as well as a doctor and struggles to get her down the mountain. Maybe Alex’s marrying the wrong guy?

Directed by Hany Abu-Assad and adapted by Chris Weitz, The Mountain Between Us has been spotted around metro Vancouver at Mammoth Studios in Burnaby and the Abbotsford and Vancouver International Airports.

And is filming in Invermere from today until the end of January (dates subject to change).
A Mountain Between Us is expected to wrap in British Columbia on February 24th (date subject to change).
