STUNT DEATH: DEADPOOL 2 Stunt Motorcycle Rider Joi “SJ” Harris Dies Performing Stunt in Downtown Vancouver

Joi Harris’s facebook.

Update: It was Joi “SJ” Harris who died this morning. She was the first  African-Amercan female professional road racer and a first-time stunt performer, Deadline: Hollywood reports.

Correction: Joi Harris was imported specially from the U.S. to perform today’s Domino-riding-her-Ducati stunt.  Vancouver’s Natasha Denis is the Domino stunt double we’ve seen on set not Harris. I have removed photos of Natasha Denis dressed as Domino.

It’s a sad day for the BC Film industry. You like to think it won’t happen here but it has. A female stunt motorcycle rider on Deadpool 2 died this morning from injuries sustained in a stunt gone wrong in downtown Vancouver. She crashed into glass windows at the Shaw Tower opposite Jack Poole Plaza at around 8:20 a.m.

Words from Ryan Reynolds.

From Zazie Beetz who plays Domino.

Global BC was on the scene and saw her doing the stunt, successfully completing it several times. But on the last try she lost control and crashed.

Sources told Deadline: Hollywood that she was an experienced road racer who had two full days of rehearsals on the weekend and at least five rehearsals before filming. But she didn’t wear a helmut, presumably because the character Domino doesn’t.
