Canada’s Minister of National Defence Harjit Sajjan visited Ryan Reynolds on the Deadpool 2 set at Coquitlam’s Riverview Lands yesterday. And used the occasion to thank Deadpool 2 for its role in Vancouver’s ranking as one of North America’s largest film and TV production centres.

The BC Film industry supports 42,000 jobs and over $2 billion of investments a year, he tweeted.

It’s a superhero summer in Vancouver with Deadpool 2 filming on some big public sets  — closing down 500 Cambie Street in downtown Vancouver early on, Boundary Road on the Vancouver/Burnaby border above Playland, the Business District so Deadpool could ride through downtown streets on his red Scooter and on and below the Granville Bridge with a giant inflatable panda at set .(Production shut down for 48 hours last week after American stunt driver Joi “SJ” Harris died performing a motorcycle stunt at Jack Poole Plaza in a tragic accident.)

Deadpool isn’t the only superhero drawing crowds.  DC TV shows The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow can be just as popular at their downtown shoots.

As if this wasn’t enough for one city, Johnny Depp’s back in Vancouver — where he got his start on 21 Jump Street — to film a small movie Richard Says Goodbye about a dying college professor binging on every vice.

And Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is shooting his next big movie Skyscraper here. Steve Carrell is filming in metro Vancouver too.

But Deadpool 2 is our movie in a way others aren’t with Vancouver’s own Ryan Reynolds perfectly cast as the fast-talking Merc-with-a-Mouth.
