TV PILOT: Freeform’s MOTHERLAND With Taylor Hickson About Female Military Witches Filming in Vancouver

Freeform pilot Motherland follows young witches — Taylor Hickson, Kelcey Mawema, Jessica Sutton and Amalia Holm — from basic training to combat magic in an alternate America’s female military.

Filming dates: July 9th to 26th.

Cast: Taylor Hickson, Kelcey Mawema, Jessica Sutton, Amalia Holm and Demetria McKinney.

What’s it about?

In an alternate America, gender and power are reversed, with women on the military front lines not men. Amd in another twist, their weapons are supernatural not guns and bullets. The pilot follows young witches –Taylor Hickson as Raelle (who’s outraged at her mother’s death while serving), Kelcey Mawema as Abigail (whose mother is a decorated general), Jessica Sutton as Tally (whose mother doesn’t want her in the military) and Amalia Holm as Scylla — from basic training in combat magic to deployment. Demetria McKinney is Anacostia, a tough but funny staff sergeant, whose job is to keep the young recruits alive until they’re deployed at Fort Salem against powerful witch terrorists known as The Spree.

From Claws creator Eliot Laurence and Gary Sanchez Productions, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay from Funny or Die are two of the producers, along with Kevin Messick.

Steve Adelson is directing.
