SEASON 5: THE MAGICIANS Starts Filming New Season on June 10th in Vancouver

The Magicians Season 5.

The Magicians will be back filming season 5 in Vancouver in early June — but without Jason Ralph as Quentin Coldwater.

Filming dates: June 10th to November 8th.

The Magicians shocked its fans by killing off its lead character in the season 4 finale. And it’s not sitting well with many that he’s gone.

Cast: Olivia Taylor Dudley (Alice Quinn), Stella Maeve (Julia Wicker), Hale Appleman (Eliot Waugh), Summer Bishil (Margo Hanson), Jade Tailor )Kady Orloff-Diasz), Trevor Einhorn (Josh Hoberman), Arjun Gupta (William “Penny” Adiyodi).

Based upon Lev Grossman’s best-selling books, The Magicians opened with Quentin’s arrival at Brakebills University, a school dedicated to training Magicians. There, he and fellow students Alice, Penny, Margo and Eliot honed their skills and later ended up in the magical kingdom of Fillory where they were named Kings and Queens and tasked with saving magic.

By season 3, magic was dead and our heroes embarked on quests to bring it back. For a moment in the season finale, it looked like they’d succeeded. But then the Library took control of all magic again and trapped Alice while the memories of Quentin, Julia, Margo, Eliot, Kady, Josh and Penny were wiped and a monster got loose and possessed Eliot.

Quentin went on a season-long quest in season 4 to save Eliot Waugh (Hale Appleman), who had been possessed by the Monster since the season 3 finale. The plan was to throw the Monster into a sort of black hole but when things go array Quentin sacrifices himself to save everyone else.

While I don’t see much of The Magicians filming around the city, I did catch Jason Ralph on set once in season 3 — passing the time between setups with a yoyo.

Homebase for Jason Ralph is New York City where his significant other Rachel Brosnahan stars in Amazon’s The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel.
