THE GOOD DOCTOR & A MILLION LITTLE THINGS To Return With New Seasons on ABC’s 2020-21 Schedule

ABC

New seasons of The Good Doctor and A Million Little Things are on ABC’s premiere schedule for 2020/21.

The shows are expected to premiere in their regular Monday and Thursday night slots in September, October or November depending on when they can safely return to production in Vancouver with Covid-19 protocols in place.

WorkSafe BC gave the green light for film & TV productions to resume filming in Hollywood North but there are ongoing conversations between the American studios and the unions/guilds on a safe set of practices.

Entertainment President Karey Burke spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about ABC’s “cascading” schedule and the need for contingency plans if shows can’t get back into production within the next few months.

She recognizes that production will be slower because of the safeguards and that might mean fewer episodes.

And there’s a chance a cast member may not want to return to work no matter what safe practices are put in place.

Plus there’s an added hurdle for filming in Vancouver. Cast like Brits Freddie Highmore, Antonia Thomas, and Americans David Guintoli, James Roday and more have to do the 14-day Canadian government-mandated  quarantine before shooting here and won’t be able to commute back and forth unless the border re-opens.

The Good Doctor Season 4 – Mondays at 10 p.m.

Cast: Freddie Highmore, Richard Schiff, Antonia Thomas, Hil Harper, Fiona Gubelmann, Will Yun Lee, Christina Chang, Paige Spara.

When The Good Doctor returns to film season 4 in Vancouver, it will be without original cast member Nicholas Gonzalez, whose character Dr. Neil Melendez died in the season 3 finale.

And series regular Jasika Nicole, who played Shaun’s girlfriend earlier in the season but broke up with him because of his feelings for Lea.

The season 3 finale ended with Shaun & Lea sharing a passionate kiss.

Which would have been an uplifting way to wrap the season if not for the tragic death back at St. Bonaventure Hospital.

Showrunner: David Shore

Early in the pandemic,  The Good Doctor production office made arrangements with the BC government about which medical supplies it could provide.

A Million Little Things Season 3 – Thursdays at 10 p.m.

Cast: David Giuntoli, James Roday, Romany Malco, Grace Park, Allison Miller, Christina Moses, Lizzie Greene,  Chance Hurstfield, Chandler Riggs, Floriana Lima.

As Eddie and Katherine prepared to renew their vows, he learned more about his possible involvement in the mysterious lake accident. That sent him to a bar in danger of breaking his 10-year sobriety but he resisted having a drink and called Katherine to tell her he loved her. Eddie was on his way home to renew his vows when he was hit by a truck as he crossed the street and the driver reportedly is someone we’ve met.

Are Gary and Maggie done?

Will Gary stay with his new girlfriend Darcy (Floriana Lima)?

How will Rome (Romany Malco) and Regina (Christina Moses) handle losing their baby after Eve chose to keep it?

Showrunner: D.J. Nash.
