REOPENING: SUPERNATURAL’s Sam & Dean & Baby on Location in Cloverdale at “Showalter’s” Gas Station

Reopening Hollywood North

Supernatural on location.

Updated:

Supernatural  is back at work in Vancouver filming its final two episodes, five months after the spread of the coronavirus shut down production worldwide.

Filming dates: August 18th to September 11th.

This week Sam & Dean & Baby went on location to Cloverdale at a gas station set built by Jerry Wanek’s production design team.

Showalter’s Gas is a tribute to the penultimate episode’s director John Showalter.

Showalter has directed over 25 episodes of Supernatural over 15 seasons.

Baby on set.

Baby & Amy.

Amy is a 1950s classic car named after Amy Adams who drove it in the movie Big Eyes.

On set with Sam & Dean. Is that Jack?

Supernatural had asked fans to stay away to help keep the production safe for cast and crew, so there wasn’t the usual crowd watching.

There’s more to come with the final shoot:  two more days of filming the penultimate episode, Inherit the Earth, directed by John Showalter and then it’s on to the series finale, Carry On, directed by Robert Singer.

Episode 19 feels kind of like the season finale for 15 and episode 20 feels like the series finale — Jensen Ackles.

The scripts had to be adjusted to accommodate the pandemic and the Supernatural writers room in Los Angeles is now closed.

How to film in a pandemic?

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki flew into Vancouver on Sunday, August 2nd, to do 14 days of full quarantine in their Vancouver apartments, with only their dogs for company.

Last week cameras rolled again on the penultimate episode, Inherit the Earth, mainly in studio on the Men of Letters bunker set.

Where did we leave Supernatural?

Five unaired episodes were completed before production of the final two episodes was suspended in March.

The last Supernatural episode to air was the thirteenth episode on March 23rd, with the Winchester brothers looking for an edge against Chuck aka God.

Destiny’s Child  featured Jared and Jensen’s real-life wives  Genevieve Padalecki and Danneel Harris Ackles reprising their characters demon Ruby and can’t-be-trusted Sister Jo.

And ended with Jack getting his soul back and apologizing to Sam & Dean for their mother Mary’s death — “It was all my fault”.  Is a restored Jack strong enough to defeat Chuck?

Who else can we expect to see in the final seven episodes?

Chuck aka God (Rob Benedict), young Sam (Christian Michael Cooper) & Dean (Paxton Singleton), God’s sister Amara/the Darkness (Emily Swallow), angel Uriel (Robert Wisdom), Sam & Dean’s half-brother Adam/Michael’s vessel (Jake Abel), and both our world and Apocalypse world Charlie (Felicia Day) are expected to make appearances.

Episode 14 – Last Holiday: Directed by Eduardo Sanchez. Shows us every holiday you want Sam & Dean to celebrate — birthdays, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas.

Episode 15 – Gimme Shelter: Directed by Matt Cohen. Castiel-centric from what we saw on location in Vancouver.

Episode 16 –  Drag Me Away (From You). Directed by Amyn Kaderali. With young Sam and Dean on one of their first hunts.

Episode 17 – Unity. Directed by Catriona McKenzie. With Amara and Uriel.

Episode 18 – Despair. Directed by Richard Speight Jr. With Sam & Dean & Cas & Jack & Baby.

Episode 19 – Inherit the Earth. Directed by John Showalter. With Chuck aka God and Adam/Michael.

Episode 20 – Carry On. Directed by Robert Singer.

Supernatural’s final run of seven episodes premieres October 8th on The CW.
