FINAL SEASON: Chyler Leigh To Direct Upcoming SUPERGIRL Season 6 Episode

Masked trio – David Harewood, Jesse Rath, Chyler Leigh.

Chyler Leigh is back on the list to direct an upcoming episode of Supergirl.

Chyler Leigh, who plays Supergirl’s sister Alex Danvers, was listed to direct a few weeks ago, but that changed. She had some shadow directing to do.

Fans are hoping that the episode Chyler Leigh directs will be Danvers sisters-centric, with more flashbacks to their youth in Midvale.

Chyler Leigh expressed her gratitude to Supergirl and tagged the #DanversSisters in mid-September on the news that season 6 would be the final season:

Reposting this golden oldie. I think this was our first day ever working together. I had no idea what I was doing on a comic book show or how I landed the job of a lifetime. I was trying to figure out how to hold my hands on my hips in as authoritative position as I could and would look over at @melissabenoist and @davidharewood and be nothing but inspired to stand taller and believe in myself. Grateful is an understatement for me. This has not only been the greatest, most challenging (physically and emotionally) project I’ve ever been a part of, I met family I never even knew I had. I met my #soulsister and I met our #spacedad. And… I met Alex Danvers. She has taught me more about myself than I could’ve imagined. She taught me to be proud of who I am for exactly who I am. 6 seasons is a rare gift in this business. It’s even more rare to absolutely adore and admire and enjoy the people you work with, let alone spend upwards towards 16 hours a day together ? But this show for all of us has been a journey much like Kara’s herself. Full of adventure, excitement, love, discovery, risk, and tremendous strength. We’ve leaned on and learned from each other. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t wait for you all to see what happens as we near the end of this season. My many thanks to everyone who has created the beautiful stories we on this show are lucky enough to tell. I will always love our cast and crew. We will always be #strongertogether @supergirlcw #season6 #danverssisters

And after some delays, Supergirl began filming its final season in mid-October.

Revised filming dates: October 13th to August 6th, 2021.

Related: Supergirl Starts Filming Final Season In Vancouver. Melissa Benoist Will Join Season 6 After Maternity Leave.

Episodes: 20.

Showrunners: Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner.

Cast: Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai, Andrea Brooks, Julie Gonzalo, Staz Nair with special guest star Jon Cryer.

Melissa Benoist will join production after her maternity leave. She and her husband Chris Wood (Supergirl’s Mon-el) welcomed a son in early September.

Production will work around Melissa Benoist until she can join them (Crew did something similar when Benoist starred in Beautiful on Broadway, by shooting episodes out of order and putting Supergirl in an exo suit so that Benoist could be CGI-ed into the scenes later).

David Harewood, who plays J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter, hinted that he was headed back to work the weekend before filming started.

Leave it bro. You’ve got work to do. #MartianManhunter

David Harewood suited up as Martian Manhunter for the first time in season 6 four days later.

Jon Cryer, who plays Lex Luthor, made the news the weekend before production started after he lost his wedding ring on the Vancouver seawall. It was found.

Azie Tesfai confirmed Supergirl was back in an Insta-story.

Where did we leave Supergirl?

In the premature season five finale directed by David Harewood, Supergirl teamed up with Lena Luthor to take down Lex and Leviathan.

J’onn J’onzz, while complaining about chafing from Supergirl’s new pants, provided a Supergirl decoy.

While Kara and Lena took the bus across town to Luthor Corp.

David Harewood shows Katie McGrath and  pregnant Melissa Benoist what he wants.

Alex debuted her new suit and Ziggy Stardust eye makeup.

Leviathan was defeated when Brainy bottled the immortals, seemingly sacrificing himself to save his friends.

And Lex lived on, of course.

Immortal Kombat was meant to be the second-to-last episode of season five but corona virus fears shut down production of the season finale in mid-March with at least three days of filming left to do. Will season 6 start with what was supposed to be the season 5 finale?

Batwoman, The Flash and new series Superman & Lois will premiere in January & February 2021 on the CW.

But Supergirl season 6 will premiere in the Spring/Summer of 2021 on The CW.
