Shōgun — an FX limited series adapted from James Clavell’s novel — starts filming in Vancouver this summer, with Cosmo Jarvis as John Blackthorne and Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Toranaga. The Lady Mariko role is not yet cast.

Filming dates: September 22nd to April 22, 2022.

Episodes: 10.

Shōgun is set in feudal Japan. It charts the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai: John Blackthorne (CosmoJarvis), a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), a shrewd, powerful daimyo, at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties who must prove her value and allegiance.

Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune and Yoko Shimada played John Blackthorne, Lord Toranaga and Lady Mariko in the 1980 Shōgun miniseries.

  1. Great mini series. Saw the original. Sad that this one won’t be on location in Japan as the first one was. Casting for this new one is brilliant. This part was written for Hiroyuki and I’m so lookingfor ward to the new production
