PREVIEW: Netflix’s MIDNIGHT MASS Drops September 24th. Zach Gilford on Garry Point Park Set
Netflix’s next horror series from Mike Flanagan drops September 24th.
Midnight Mass tells the tale of Crockett Island, a small, isolated island community whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of the disgraced Riley Flynn (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater). When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with unexplained and seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community – but do these miracles come at a price?
Letter from showrunner Mike Flanagan.
As a former altar boy, about to celebrate 3 years of sobriety, it’s hard not to see what makes this so personal. The ideas at the root of this show scare me to my core.
There is darkness at work on Crockett Island. Some of it is is supernatural, but the scariest is born of human nature. The darkness that animates this story isn’t hard to see in our own world, unfortunately.
But this show is about something else as well…faith itself. One of the great mysteries of human nature. How even in the darkness, in the worst of it, in the absence of light – and hope –we sing.
I hope you enjoy our song. — Mike Flanagan.

Midnight Mass constructed a massive village set in Steveston’s Garry Point Park in 2020 but production was postponed in mid-March after the pandemic shut down the film and TV industry. The set was shuttered and left to the elements.
After a five-month break Midnight Mass started production last August with extensive Covid safety protocols and wrapped safely 83 shooting days later without interruption.

That’s a wrap on MIDNIGHT MASS. It has been an extraordinary, unprecedented production, and I cannot be prouder of this amazing cast and crew. In fact – and I do not say this lightly – this has been the best production experience of my career.— Mike Flanagan (@flanaganfilm) December 16, 2020
