Cousins Robbie & Stephen Amell are in Toronto Filming Netflix Sequel to CODE 8

Cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell appeared at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto today to talk about the Netflix sequel to their crowd-funded sci-fi hit Code 8.

Production on Code 8: Part II started October 18th and is expected to wrap two months later on December 17th.

Here’s the logline for the original Code 8:

Code 8 – In Lincoln City, where super powered people are ostracized, an earnest day labourer (Robbie Amell) uses his outlawed abilities for money to save his sick mother.

The sequel:

Code 8: Part II – A teenage girl fights to get justice for her slain brother at the hands of corrupt police officers. After becoming a witness to the cover-up, she becomes a target and enlists the help of an ex-con (Robbie Amell) and his former partner-in-crime (Stephen Amell). Together, they face a highly regarded and well protected police sergeant who will use every tool to prevent himself from being exposed.

Jeff Chan. Chris Paré, Sherren Lee and Jesse LaVercombe returned to write the sequel script and Jeff Chan will direct Part II.

What a difference success makes — Code 8 is in the big leagues now. Netflix’s Ted Sarandos announced at the Banff World Media Festival in June that the streaming giant had purchased the global rights to Code 8: Part II.

The original movie got cameras rolling by raising $2.5 million from fans in a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.

More than 35,000 backers contributed, making it the second-largest crowd-funded original film to date

The Amells thanked the backers at several screenings, including one in Vancouver.

Now the Amells are “blowing out” their Code 8 universe.

There’s nothing better than working with family and friends. Code 8 was the embodiment of that. I can’t wait to get back to work on the sequel. — Robbie Amell to Deadline

Code 8 is an incredibly personal and special project for all of us. We built the world in the first one and now we’re ready to blow it out! — Stephen Amell to Deadline.

Arrow star Stephen Amell teased the sequel on his Twitter.
