I’m not even sure where to start. This has been a tragedy of epic proportions that we are all still processing. — Jensen Ackles.

Jensen Ackles paid tribute to Halyna Hutchins last night, the cinematographer who was accidentally killed last Thursday on the set of the western Rust in New Mexico.

The Supernatural alum was co-starring in the indie film with Alec Baldwin, who discharged the prop gun which killed Hutchins and injured Director Joel Souza on the Bonanza Creek Ranch set near Santa Fe.

My heart and prayers go out to Halyna’s husband, son and the rest of her family. There just aren’t enough words to express what an immense loss this is.. — Jensen Ackles.

Questions abound about how such a tragedy could have occurred with the Los Angeles Times and Deadline: Hollywood detailing how producers cut corners which led to crew unrest and on-set gun safety issues and misfires in the days up to her death..

We have halted production on [Rust] for an undetermined period of time – statement.

What’s Rust about?

Rust follows infamous western outlaw Harland Rust (Alec Baldwin) who has had a bounty on his head for as long as he can remember. When his estranged 13-year-old grandson Lucas (Brady Noon) is convicted of an accidental murder and sentenced to hang, Rust travels to Kansas to break him out of prison. Together, the fugitives must outrun the legendary U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Jensen Ackles) and bounty-hunter Fenton “Preacher” Lang (Travis Fimmel) who are hot on their tail. Deeply buried secrets rise from the ashes and an unexpected familial bond begins to form as the mismatched duo tries to survive the merciless American Frontier.
