YELLOWJACKETS 2×01: Where Is Lottie’s Cult Compound Filmed in Vancouver?

Where was adult Lottie’s cult filmed in Vancouver?

At Camp Howdy in Belcarra as the fictional Camp Green Pine.

Yellowjackets is about a group of survivors from a girls’ high-school soccer team who 25 years ago were stranded deep in the wilderness after a plane crash and forced to go feral to survive.

Adult survivors in 2021:

Adult Lottie’s cult filmed on location at the closed YMCA Camp Howdy in Belcarra, now a popular wedding venue.

2400 Court Motel:

In the season 2 premiere, Yellowjackets returned to the iconic 2400 Court Motel on Kingsway for scenes of Misty investigating Nat’s abduction by Lottie’s cult.

With Andy Thompson as the acerbic motel clerk who could care less about a missing guest.

Teens stranded in wilderness in 1996:

Winter for the teen survivors stranded in the wilderness had to be faked in studio.

Filmed at Bridge Studios.

Production built a snowy cabin set at Bridge Studios to show the aftermath of team captain Jackie freezing to death outside.

Season One used a cabin on the grounds of Panther Paintball in Surrey but when the cabin became the central location in season 2 the set was rebuilt at Bridge Studios with removable walls and a fake snowy forest around it (30% real trees suspended from the ceiling) to match the OG location.

There’s a kind of photo backdrop around the stage. It’s challenging enough to build a forest that people have seen already, [and then] to just make the trees look real on stage. So we’re trying to match our forest, and then there’s the layer of the snow. — production designer Margaret Ready to IndieWire.

Yellowjackets needed so much of Krendl blown paper snow in season 2 that B.C. ran out of it and production had to order more from Alberta..

Real snow in B.C.:

The most painful day for us on the show was when a freak snowstorm hit Vancouver. We were shooting two units on Monday, and over the weekend [before the shoot], we had to remove real snow from our present timeline location while adding fake snow to the past timeline location — Margaret Ready to IndieWire.

Real snow in Alberta:

Yellowjackets spent two days shooting Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) and Travis (Kevin Alves)’s hunting expeditions in the Alberta Rockies.

Working in Alberta was probably the most physically taxing. We were actually going through the snow and I thought I was gonna get frostbite at one point. They had these warming tents — they were very prepared for everything — but it was excruciating. Alberta is where they shot The Revenant. Like, the coldest place ever. — Sophie Thatcher. to Vulture.
