BC-Filmed THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES Won’t Stream on Disney+. Will Be Shopped.
A change in content strategy means the already-completed The Spiderwick Chronicles will not stream on Disney+ as expected.. The BC-filmed series from 20th Television and rival studio Paramount will be shopped elsewhere.
Going forward Disney+ intends to focus on its own IP (Intellectual Property) like the BC-filmed Percy Jackson and the Olympians series based on Rick Riordan’s books published by Disney’s Hyperion Books (one exception to the new content rule is the BC-filmed Goosebumps series from outside studio Sony which will stream on Disney+), according to Deadline: Hollywood.
Based on the bestselling books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Spiderwick Chronicles follows the Grace Family—twin brothers Jared (Lyon Daniels) and Simon (Noah Cottrell), their sister Mallory (Mychala Lee) and mother Helen (Joy Bryant)—as they move into their dilapidated ancestral home and begin to unravel a dark mystery about their great-great Uncle Arthur Spiderwick who once discovered the secret and maybe foreboding faerie world existing parallel to their own.
Hollywood movie maker Richard Grace (Christian Slater) is the absentee father of Jared, Simon and Mallory Grace and ex-husband of Helen Grace but Richard is really Mulgarath in disguise, an evil ogre who wants to steal Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Natural World to become more powerful.
