Swift announced the surprise documentary of her current Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on her social media yesterday and advance ticket sales, for what is projected to be a $70-million opening weekend (October 13-15th), already top $45 million.
Like Barbie, the Taylor Swift concert movie will be an event movie, but instead of a sea of pink in theatres it will be Swifties in Eras attire, singing and dancing to their favourite pop star.
How did this come about?
The Swift family made a deal directly with AMC Theatres to distribute the film in North America, bypassing Hollywood studios.. This will mean more millions for Swift on top of the projected $1.4 billion total gross for her actual Eros tour.
