How big is the BC-filmed Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians starring Walker Scobell? Big enough to have its World Premiere last night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art — its own Met Gala.

Big enough for its November 16th trailer to amass 126.5 million impressions, 84.3 million video views and 1.8 million engagements in its first 10 days of release, according to Deadline: Hollywood.

Big enough to have a production budget on par with The Mandalorian’s, according to Variety sources.

These sources put Percy Jackson’s budget between $12 million and $15 million an episode. At eight episodes, that would make the season one budget somewhere between $96 million and $120 million. (Disney+ did not confirm the Variety estimates.)

Based on Rick Riordan’s best-selling book series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians tells the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus (Lance Reddick) accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.

With help from his friends Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.

Filming in B.C.:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians filmed in B.C. from June 2022 to early February 2023, much of it on Vancouver’s new Volume stage at Mammoth Studios in Burnaby but also on location with two big sets for Camp Half-Blood.

The Volume:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians simulated many interiors — like  New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art— using a giant virtual LED wall aka the Volume so that actors would have something to respond to, VFX supervisor Jeff White told a crowd at New York Comic Con.

Camp Half-Blood:

Production built two Camp Half-Blood sets: one on a farm in Langley and another at Minaty Bay on the Sea to Sky Highway.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians premieres December 20th on Disney+, with the first two episodes.
