SCHMIGADOON! & Its Cast of Broadway Stars Won’t Get a Season 3 of Filming in Vancouver

Muscial tribute series Schmigadoon!, with Keegan-Michael Key, Cecily Strong and a cast of Broadway stars, won’t get a season three of filming in Vancouver.

Apple TV+ has decided not to move forward with a third season, expected to focus on musicals from the 1980s and 1990s, even though the scripts and 25 new songs are written.

I am sad to share that Apple will not be moving forward with Season 3 of Schmigadoon!! The season is written (including 25 new songs) but we unfortunately won’t be making it. Such is life. — co-creator Paul Cinco on Instagram.

In season one, backpacking couple Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) discovered a magical town Schmigadoon where everyone acted as if they were in musicals from the 1940s and 1950s — like Brigadoon, The Carousel, Oklahoma and The Music Man.

Season one:

In season two, Josh and Melissa try to return to Schmigadoon and end up in the darker, sexier, jazzier city of Schmicago where everyone acts as if they are in musicals from the 1960s and 1970s — like Chicago, Cabaret, Hair, Sweeney Todd and Pippin.

Season two:

In the season 2 finale, Josh and Melissa are able to leave Schmicago but the townspeople want them to stay. In the end, the pair decide they want “something real” over the magical worlds of Schmicago and Schmigadoon..

Cast :Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Aaron Tveit, Titus Burgess, Patrick Page.

Titus Burgess joined the cast for season 2 as the Narrator (inspired by The Leading Player from Pippin).

Ariana DeBose as Emcee (inspired by Cabaret‘s Emcee).

Dove Cameron as Jenny Banks (inspired by Cabaret‘s Sally Bowles).

Ann Harada as Madam Frau (inspired by Cabaret‘s Fräulein Schneider)

Kristin Chenoweth as Miss Caldwell (inspired by Sweeney Todd‘s Mrs. Lovett and Annie‘s Miss Hannigan) and Alan Cumming as Dooley Flint (inspired by Sweeney Todd).

Jane Krakowski as Bobby Flanagan (inspired by Chicago‘s Billy Flynn)

Aaron Tvelt as Topher (inspired by characters in Hair, Pippin and  Godspell)

Jaime Cavill as Sergeant Rivera and Patrick Page as Octavius Kratt.
