Cannes to Van two years in a row. — Lily Gladstone to the Prestige Junkie podcast
Lily Gladstone is flying back from the Cannes Film Festival to a set in Vancouver for the second year in a row.
This year, the Oscar nominee was a juror at Cannes and is coming to Vancouver to start production on The Wedding Banquet remake, co-starring Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang and Kelly Marie Tran.
Last year Gladstone flew to Cannes for the premiere of her breakout role in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon from Vancouver, where she was wrapping seven months of shooting Hulu’s Under the Bridge series about the 1997 murder of Victoria teen Reena Virk.

Gladstone told the Prestige Junkie podcast that she looks forward to doing a comedy after the acclaimed but serious dramas Killers of the Flower Moon and Under the Bridge.
In the Manhattan-set original The Wedding Banquet directed by Ang Lee, a gay Taiwanese landlord and a female tenant agree to a marriage of convenience to deflect his parents and get her a green card. Then his parents arrive to visit and things get out of hand.
In the Seattle-set remake directed by Andrew Ahn, a gay Korean graduate student working on his Masters of Fine Arts, needs to marry in order to get his green card.
When graduate student Min (not yet cast)’s boyfriend Chris (Bowen Yang) rejects his spontaneous marriage proposal, Min convinces his best friend Angela (Kelly Marie Tran) to marry him in his stead, paying for her partner Liz’ (Lily Gladstone)’s IVF treatments in exchange for his green card.
Min and Angela’s plans for a subtle city hall elopement are turned upside down when Min’s grandmother (Pachinko’s Youn Yuh-jung)travels to Seattle to throw them an extravagant Korean wedding banquet.
