First footage from BC-filmed season 2 of HBO’s hit adaption The Last of Us shows Pedro Pascal’s teary Joel Miller confessing what he did to protect Bella Ramsey’s Ellie last season.

At the end of season one, we left father figure Joel and surrogate daughter Ellie overlooking Jackson, Wyoming, after Joel’s big lie about the events at the Fireflies hospital in Salt Lake City:
Joel had rescued an anesthetized Ellie after murdering the doctors who were about to harvest her cells as a possible cure for the Cordyceps infection in a procedure she would not have survived. But he didn’t tell Ellie what he’d done.
What is The Last of Us?
Season one of The Last of Us took place 20 years after modern civilization had been destroyed by a fungal pandemic. Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, was hired to smuggle teen Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What started as a small job soon became a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they both traversed across the U.S. and depended on each other for survival.
At the end of season one, Joel and Ellie headed back to Jackson, Wyoming, a walled community of survivors from the fungal pandemic led by Joel’s brother Tommy Miller (Gabriel Luna) and sister-in-law Maria (Rutina Wesley).
Production moved from Alberta to British Columbia for season 2 and built a massive western town set at Britannia Beach on the Sea to Sky Highway.

In season 2, we meet some new characters In Jackson like Ellie’s new friend Dina (Isabela Merced) and young scout Jesse (Young Mazino)..
We also meet a group of former Fireflies who join Isaac (Jeffrey Wright)’s Washington Liberation Front (WLF) in Seattle: soldier Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever), who’s seeking vengeance for someone she loved; soldier Manny (Danny Ramirez), doctor Mel (Ariela Barer), military medic Nora (Tati Gabrielle) and Owen (Spencer Lord).
