The Casket Girls, starring Gabrielle Union in a horror story inspired by an infamous French-Catholic convent in New Orleans, is filming in Victoria this Fall.
Following up on a reported disturbance, Detective Shay and her partner investigate the ominous Ursuline Convent in the 1700s, a prime location for New Orleans ghost tours, known for its dark history as the home of the St. Mary’s Chapel. An unsettling discovery leads to a trap, sealing the Detectives and a few unlucky guests inside with an evil that waits to feed.
The Casket Girls is inspired by the true story of 1700s brides in French-Catholic New Orleans, so-called because they arrived from France with “caskets” of their belongings. Blamed for rising homicide rates and thought to be demons or vampires, the young women ended up imprisoned in the Ursuline Convent behind an impenetrable door and windows bolted shut.
