Netflix’s reboot of the classic family series Little House on the Prairie, which followed the lives of a simple American Midwest farming family in the late 1800s, starts shooting this June in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The original TV adaption of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books about the Ingalls family starred Melissa Gilbert as Laura, Michael Landon as her father Charles, Karen Grassie as her mother Caroline and Melissa Sue Anderson as her older sister Mary. The popular show ran for nine seasons on NBC from 1974 -1983.
The new adaption:
Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical ‘Little House’ books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.

Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story — Netflix’s Vice President of Drama Series Jinny Howe.
There is an open casting call for Laura Ingalls with submissions closing April 4th.
