In tonight’s The Irrational, Jesse L. Martin’s behavioural scientist Alec Mercer goes undercover in a community production of the musical Little Shop of Horrors to crack a case.
The Broadway star originated the role of Tom Collins in Rent, before spending eight seasons on Law & Order as Detective Ed Green in New York City and then eight seasons on The Flash as Detective Joe West in Vancouver — where he got to show off his singing chops in the musical episode Duet.

Alec Mercer (Jesse L Martin). a world-renowned professor of behavioral science, lends his expertise to an array of high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement, and corporations with his unique and unexpected approach to understanding human behavior.
Tonight’s episode:
I’m a behavioural psychologist who solves mysteries. Up until now I have been solving crimes mostly having to do with homicides. I have a girlfriend. Her name is Rose Dinshaw. She brings me in because she’s a corporate fixer. I’m just there to tag along and I end up going undercover in a small theatre company’s version of Little Shop of Horrors. — Jesse L. Martin.
In order to solve an actor’s murder, Alec (Jesse L. Martin) and Rose (Karen David) must go undercover to infiltrate a community theatre production of “Little Shop of Horrors,” but joining the cast may put them right in the killer’s cross-hairs.
Season 2 wrapped production in Vancouver last November.
