YELLOWJACKETS Wilderness Bombshell in Thanksgiving (Canada) Episode

What happens in the Wilderness doesn’t stay in the Wilderness.

Early in season 3 of Yellowjackets, Callie (Sarah Desjardins), the daughter of adult survivor Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), intercepts a mysterious tape sent to her Mom. We don’t learn what’s on that tape until this week’s episode six titled Thanksgiving (Canada).

Yellowjackets is about a group of survivors from a girls’ high-school soccer team who 25 years ago were stranded deep in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash and went feral to stay alive.

The DAT (Digital Audio Tape) tape from the Wilderness is a recording of the October (aka Canadian Thanksgiving) 1997 moment when outsiders stumble onto the teen survivors screaming, chanting and dancing around near Coach Ben (Steven Krueger)’s head as they eat bits of him in a cannibalistic feast.

What the fuck?! — Nelson Franklin’s Edwin speaks for us all when he sees Ben’s head on display.

Edwin is wearing a DAT recorder around his neck and it’s likely Ashley Sutton’s Hanna and Joel McHale’s character are too.

This is huge twist for several reasons:

Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) is dead in a mercy killing by teen Natalie (Sophie Thatcher).

Under teen Shauna (Sophie Nelisse)’s brutal leadership, this is the first time the survivors have cannibalized someone without it being necessary to keep them from starving.

Is what happens to these scientists the real coverup years later?

Could the teens have been rescued earlier by these scientists if they hadn’t witnessed their depravity?

Who sent the DAT tape to adult Shauna (Melanie Lynskey)?

“The only people that even know about this are either us or dead,” adult Van (Lauren Ambrose) says to adult Shauna and Taissa (Tawny Cypress). Adult Misty (Christina Ricci) is filled in later about the tape.
