Mike Flanagan Casting Lead for New CARRIE Series Filming in Vancouver

Horrormeister Mike Flanagan is casting the lead for his latest Stephen King adaption — a new Carrie series for Amazon Prime Video.

Young actress Summer T. Howell is in talks to play the role, according to Deadline: Hollywood.

Carrie is a reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White, who has spent her life in seclusion with her domineering mother. After her father’s sudden death, Carrie finds herself contending with the challenges of attending high school, a bullying scandal and the emergence of mysterious telekinetic powers.

1976 horror classic Carrie starring Sissy Spacek.

Mike Flanagan returned to Vancouver in mid-February to start prep on the series.

The Salem-born writer-director-producer’s first Stephen King adaption was a sequel to The Shining called Doctor Sleep, followed by Gerald’s Game and The Life of Chuck starring Tom Hiddleston.

Much of Flanagan’s mainstream success comes from his string of hit Netflix horror-with-empathy series — from The Haunting of Hill House to The Haunting of Bly Manor to Midnight Mass to the Edgar Allen Poe mashup The Fall of the House of Usher.

All of Flanagan’s Netflix horror series filmed in Vancouver, with the exception of The Haunting of Hill House.
