Let’s make a Karate Kid.
Two franchises converge as Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio team up to train newcomer Ben Wang in the Montreal-filmed feature Karate Kid: Legends.
There’s two of them.
The new movie takes the 1984 original storyline with Ralph Macchio and the 2010 reboot with Jackie Chan as Mr. Han and reimagines them on the East Coast with Ben Wang, Sadie Stanley, Ming Na Wen, Joshua Jackson, and more joining The Karate Kid universe.
Karate Kid:: Legends picks up three years after the final season of Cobra Kai. After a family tragedy, kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) is uprooted from his home in Beijing and forced to move to New York City with his Doctor mother (Ming-Na Wen).
.Li struggles to let go of his past as he tries to fit in with his new classmates, and although he doesn’t want to fight, trouble seems to find him everywhere. When a new friend needs his help, Li enters a karate competition – but his skills alone aren’t enough. Li’s kung fu teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) enlists original Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) for help, and Li learns a new way to fight, merging their two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.
Ben Wang , who speaks fluent Mandarin and is skilled in karate, kung fu, tae kwon do and other martial arts, won the role of Li after a global casting search.
Originally scheduled to be in theatres last December, Sony Pictures pushed the release date to May 30 2025 to follow the final season of the popular Netflix spinoff Cobra Kai, starring Ralph Macchio as his original Karate Kid character Daniel Larusso.
