The Handmaid’s Tale, starring Elizabeth Moss as the ex-handmaid rebel June, is streaming the first three episodes of its filmed-in-Toronto sixth and final season on Hulu (and Crave in Canada).
They believed that these garments they put on our bodies told the world who we are. To mark us they put us in red, the colour of blood. They forgot that it’s also the colour of rage. The dress became our uniform and we became an army.
The Handmaid’s Tale is June’s story, adapted from and inspired by Margaret Atwood’s novel.
The series began in a dystopian future, with young wife and mother June Osborne (Elizabeth Moss) forced to live as a concubine to Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and his wife Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) under the fundamentalist theocratic dictatorship of Gilead.
At the end of season 4, June killed Commander Fred Waterford, the man who’d enslaved her, and escaped to Toronto with her baby Nichole, fathered by her boyfriend Nick Blaine (Max Minghella) not the Commander. There she stays with her OG husband Luke Bankole (O-T Fagbenle).
How did season 5 end?
June is on the run again, after Luke violently attacked the Gilead sympathizer who tried to run down June with his truck. Luke turns himself in at the Toronto station so that June and baby Nichole can board a train of Gilead refugees headed west to Vancouver. On the train, the former handmaid sees her adversary Serena Waterford and baby son Noah among the refugees in a full circle moment.
“You got a diaper?” Serena asks.

How does season 6 begin?
Episode 6×01 Train: June (Elizabeth Moss) and Serena (Yvonne Strahovski)’s journey takes an unexpected turn. Moira (Samira Wiley) makes a bold decision. Nick (Max Minghella) deals with a powerful visitor.

In the season premiere directed by Elizabeth Moss, Serena’s true identity is exposed to the Gilead refugees and June has to pull the emergency brake and push Serena and baby Noah off the train to save them from the mob.

After the train is turned away from Vancouver, it heads to Alaska. There June is surprised to find her presumed-dead mother Holly (Cherry Jones), who is part of the refugee camp’s medical staff.

Episode 6×02 Exile: June (Elizabeth Moss) tries to settle in a new community. Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) seeks a sanctuary. Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) take a big risk.
Episode 6×03 Devotion :June (Elizabeth Moss) struggles to save her loved ones. Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) welcomes diplomats to New Bethlehem. Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) searches for Janine (Madeline Brewer).
