Ellie’s halting performance of Pearl Jam’s Future Days happened in Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre as the game’s Pinnacle Theater for The Last of Us’s Seattle Day 2.
The game’s Pinnacle Theater (inspired by Seattle’s Paramount Theater) is the place that Bella Ramsey’s Ellie and Isabel Merced’s Dina hole up during their time in Seattle.
In episode 5, Ellie explores the auditorium at the theater they’ve made their base camp. The stage is set up for a concert, frozen in time.
Ellie picks up the guitar and begins to play Pearl Jam’s Future Days and then stops herself after singing the line– If I were to ever lose you.
The music makes her ache for Joel.

Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann talked about the Orpheum theatre’s close match on The Last of Us official podcast.

[The Orpheum theatre] is so close to the one in the game…..there is some subtle [VFX] aging going on because we couldn’t mess their carpets up, we couldn’t mess their seats up or the walls,. We also wanted to imply that this was fairly well preserved, a kind of a tomb left untouched, a safe haven for Dina and Ellie. — Craig Mazin.

It was scary how close it was to the game walking onto that set. – Neil Druckmann.
Production designer Don Macauley and his art team built sets for everything else in the theater — the lobby, the balcony overlooking the lobby and the roof Ellie and Din run up to.
