COWBOY With Ben Foster, Gabriel Basso & Rudy Pankow Filming in Calgary & Vancouver

Cowboy is a raw and honest look at the rodeo world built from the dust up — it’s about grit, humility, integrity, freedom … 1,800 pounds of rough stock at a time. – Director Cameron Duddy.

Ben Foster, Gabriel Basso and Rudy Pankow star in indie Cowboy filming in Calgary and Vancouver.

Set against the backdrop of the traveling rodeo circuit, Cowboy follows a ragtag group of bull riders, barrel racers and pickup men as they chase fleeting glory beneath the glow of arena lights, under the neon haze of roadside bars, and behind the twin beams of car light leading them into the night. It’s dusty, dangerous, and deeply human.

Director Cameron Duddy is one of the founding members of the country band Midland. Other band members are helping out — Cameron Duddy, Adair Cole and Jess Carson worked on the script. and Mark Wystrach is in the movie.

NFL player Taylor Lewan of the popular podcast Bussin’ With the Boys also makes an appearance..

Cowboy follows Lee “Babe” Midnight (Ben Foster), a washed-up rodeo legend drifting between small-time shows and shady deals. When he crosses paths with Clif Casey, a gifted young veteran, Lee reluctantly takes him under his wing. As Clif rises on the rodeo circuit, Lee spirals—haunted by past regrets, avoiding his estranged son Ace, and struggling with fading prowess. His betrayals mount, including a painful rift with Clif and the Vaqueros Galacticos.

At the prestigious Calgary Stampede, both men confront their defining moments. After a fellow rider is injured, Lee chooses a final bull ride despite his own wounds. He entrusts Clif with his Turtle Association ring, asking him to pass it to Ace along with his story. Lee’s last ride becomes a bid for redemption—an act of legacy rather than glory. The film explores masculinity, ambition, and generational responsibility, set against the brutal beauty of modern rodeo and the shifting values within it
