Set in the early 1900s, When Calls the Heart follows Elizabeth, a cultured schoolteacher, who leaves her comfortable world in the city for a new life in a frontier town and blossoms as the community becomes her true home.
Season 12 ended on a cliffhanger with Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow) and her diabetic son little Jack (Hyland Goodrich) headed out of town to get treatment for him in Cape Fullerton.at a brand-new insulin lab.

Elizabeth’s new love Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) joined them on the journey.

What else happened in season 12?
Love flourished for Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry)as they embraced the joy of new romance. Reporter Rosemary Coulter (Pascale Hutton) and retired Mountie Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) teamed up once again to investigate a train robbery, while Governor Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) and Mayor Lee Coulter (Kavan Smith) quite literally found common ground. The community came together to celebrate and support each other through a season of discovering passions, leaps of faith, and a whole lot of dancing.
