Too much work?
Ruby Rose is leaving Batwoman after one season. The role will be recast.
I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles. — Ruby Rose in a statement.
No reasons for the departure were given by the actress, show runner Caroline Dries, Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. TV or The CW.
But work load is said to have been a major factor for Ruby Rose wanting off the show. Coming from big features, she didn’t enjoy the long hours demanded of a lead in am Arrowverse series.
Batwoman season one filmed for 8 months, five days a week, with back to back to back overnight shoots. Add the punishing schedule of the five-show crossover in the Fall and there was very little off time, before the Covid-19 virus prematurely shut down production.
It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit. — an inside source told TV Line.
Who would you like to see under the red wig?
The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months. — Warner Bros TV and The CW in a statement.
Batwoman is renewed for season 2 with a faux Bruce Wayne expected to cause trouble at Wayne Enterprises.
It wasn’t all work. There was some on-set fun during the Crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths.
