Michael Cera will direct fellow Canadian Pamela Anderson in Love is Not the Answer, an absurdist comedy of modern loneliness and the search for connection, filming in Ottawa this Fall.
Jean Harper (Pamela Anderson), a longtime actress, takes a last-ditch role in a feature film, mostly to ogle heartthrob Tom O’Neill (Steve Coogan) Her plans are derailed when she’s stalked by Ingo, her airport driver who follows her across the country after a charged ride.
On set, Jean bonds deeply with her bright-eyed co-star Mary, whose youth and romance with Tom stir unexpected feelings of envy and reflection in Jean. As Jean contends with her grown but dependent son Justin back home, she must navigate the absurdity of late-life flirtations, unwelcome admirers, and the quiet ache of missed chances.
