TCA NEWS: THE FLASH & ARROW Heroes & Villains Panel With Katie Cassidy & Twelve Men

Flarrow — The Flash and Arrow — Heroes and Villains panel at the Television Critics Association winter press tour this morning. Katie Cassidy (hero Black Canary) and 12 men — Stephen Amell (hero Arrow), Grant Gustin (hero The Flash), John Barrowman (villain Malcolm Merlyn), Tom Cavanagh (villain Reverse Flash), Colton Haynes (hero Arsenal), David Ramsey (hero Blarrow), Brandon Routh (the Atom), Matt Nable (villain Ra’s al Ghul) Wentworth Miller (villain Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Heat Wave), Robbie Amell (hero Firestorm) and Victor Garber (hero Firestorm) — plus showrunners Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim.  . Katie Cassidy (Black Canary) has known since before Arrow shot its pilot that she would become the Black Canary eventually. After hitting rock bottom in season 2 Laurel Lance has gone from “avenging her sister” Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) to “honouring her sister to becoming her sister.” Laurel steps up now that the Arrow has fallen: “I’ve been waiting for this to happen, and I’m very excited and thrilled about it.” Asked what it’s like to work with so many hot men: “It’s awesome. They’re all OK looking.” . Stephen Amell (Arrow) knew early on in the production of season 3 that Sara would die and that Oliver would lose the death match with Ra’s al Ghul (Matt Nable). “I personally love when there’s adversity for the protagonist and we give other characters on the show the opportunity to come more into leading roles,” Amell said. “If we don’t give other characters the opportunity to shoulder the load, then we give viewers nothing to attach them to. I’m excited for everyone’s opportunity.” But he had no problem being there.  “Quite frankly, I feel like I earned my spot here,” he said about being on the panel despite “dying”. . Grant Gustin (The Flash) says “I’ve been playing superhero since I was a kid” but the green screen scared him at first. “As an actor I try to find first in a scene, what is my truth.” .  John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) calls it a “dream job” for someone who played with comic book action figures as a boy.

.  Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells/Reverse Flash) confirms he is the man in the yellow suit — Reverse Flash –and loves the duality. His agendas don’t necessarily make him a bad guy, Cavanagh teased. He says he needs Barry Allen to do well. Plus Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett)’s name is no accident, according to the showrunners. Thawne’s connection to Reverse Flash lore will “pay off big time” in the back half of the season.

. David Ramsey (Diggle) will be suiting up again as Blarrow (Black Arrow) now that Oliver Queen is gone.

. Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold) says one of the best things about working with his Prison Break brother is “we have chemistry, we have history”.

. Dominic Purcell (Heat Wave) is enjoying  his Prison Break reunion with Miller.  “My kids think it’s the coolest thing I’ve done.”

. Brandon Routh (the Atom) says he was hesitant to step “into the DC world again [but] it’s good to be a part of a show so well loved.”

. Robbie Amell (Firestorm) talked about working with Victor Garber. His fiance Italia Ricci is a big Titanic fan.

. Victor Garber (Firestorm) says Italia Ricci is even prettier than Robbie Amell.

Being VERY careful how I answer the questions on the Television Critics Association panel
