PHOTO RECAP: ONCE UPON A TIME’s Storybrooke Scenes in 2×02 We Are Both

We Are Both opens with the Seven Dwarfs testing the Storybrooke town limits and discovering that if one of them crosses the border their cursed self becomes their only self, as Sneezy forgets he was ever a Dwarf.

Next we see the damage the Wraith caused in Storybrooke in an overhead pan of downed telephone poles, blownout windows, overturned cars and uprooted pavement, filmed on Moncton Street in Steveston south of Vancouver.

And we see a populace in relief mode, handing out blankets, bottles of water and toilet paper at the Storybrooke Town Hall, filmed in Fort Langley.

Charming/David (Josh Dallas) takes charge at the Storybrooke Town Hall, promising his grandson Henry (Jared Gilmore) and everyone else that he will come up with a plan to fix everything, but he’s really more concerned with finding a way to get back his wife and daughter — Snow White and Emma Swan — who fell through a portal opened by a magic hat in the season premiere.

And the Evil Queen/Regina (Lana Parrilla) is really more concerned with getting Henry back, entering Mr. Gold’s to look for her mother’s book of magic, filmed back in Steveston.

Since Charming/David needs to find the owner of the Magic Hat which opened the portal, he pays a visit to Mr. Gold’s too to buy a potion from Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold that will help him find someone.

After they strike a deal, Charming/David pours Rumple’s potion on the hat and chases it down the street.

Where he finds the Mad Hatter (Sebastian Stan) trapped inside his overturned car opposite Granny’s Diner.

The Evil Queen/Regina uses her returned magic to scare the townspeople and make Henry come home.

And the Mad Hatter confirms to Charming/David that the hat is a portal jumper to the Enchanted Forest — which still exists — but they can’t get there. And then the Mad Hatter runs away. Charming/David chases after him until Red  (Meghan Ory) stops him (we saw this scene being filmed in Steveston but were asked not to photograph it). Red tells Charming/David that the Evil Queen/Regina has Henry. That she used magic to get him back and everyone is so afraid of her that they’re leaving Storybrooke. The town is coming apart and Charming/David has to do something.

So CharmingDavid drives out in his truck to the Storybrooke limits to stop everyone from crossing  the line. He warns them that they will forget who they were before the curse. “You’ll lose yourself,” he says. He tells them that he is Storybrooke David and the Prince. “I am both. Just like you. You are both. The town is both. We are both.” And he promises to protect them.

Charming/David then goes to the Evil Queen/Regina’s house and demands to see Henry. And in a surprise twist the Evil Queen/Regina lets Henry go. “I want to redeem myself,” she tells her adopted son.

  1. I found this episode so touching, as I never really thought Regina would ever change, even though she had glimpses she showed us there was potential, she still always clung to her magic and manipulative ways. Perhaps everyone will be restored eventually, or there will be new evil characters that take over the evil plot while the old evil people become good. Honestly, I wouldn’t have even thought about watching if I hadn’t seen it on my PrimeTime Anytime recordings yesterday. It’s a pity I didn’t see the premiere but the shows delete themselves after eight days. Now I can’t wait to find out how they’re going to get back, and who is going to win, Rumplestiltskin or The Queen.

  2. Hey does anyone know the whole filming schedule? I’m going to vancouver area in March and I was wondering if they would be filming once upon a time then? PLease let me know!!!!

Once Upon a Time writers are never that far ahead of filming so there is no shooting schedule for the whole season. It depends what’s written but Once Upon a Time does film regularly in Steveston south of Vancouver so chances are good that you’ll get to see them at least once there.
