START DATES: Vancouver Filming of American 2013-14 Season TV Shows – Revised

Dates subject to change.

Big American network and cable TV series return to Vancouver this summer, with out-of-the-box hit Arrow scheduled to start filming of its second season on July 10th; horror hit Supernatural of its ninth season on July 11th; modern fairy tale series Once Upon a Time of its third season on July 11th; super-powered youth show The Tomorrow People of its first season on July 17th; human/android buddy cop series Almost Human of its first season on July 23rd; creepy-good Bates Motel of its second season on July 24th and classic tale Once Upon a Time in Wonderland of its first season on July 31st.

July 10th – Arrow star Stephen Amell adds impending fatherhood to his already busy schedule of workouts, stunt rehearsals and filming in the upcoming second season. How will the destruction of part of the Glades and the loss of his best friend Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) affect the hooded vigilante, who seemingly vanquished his nemesis the Dark Archer/Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) in the cinematic season finale? Arrow returns at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th this fall on The CW.

July 11th -Supernatural star Jensen Ackles’s newborn daughter Justice Jay “JJ” Ackles may prevent him from directing the first filmed episode of the season, which he’s done for the past three summers. Season eight left us with the Winchester brothers watching angels fall from heaven in a spectacular visual effect. Sam (Jared Padalecki) is a wreck from his trials and Megatron has robbed Castiel (Misha Collins) of his grace. Does this mean Cas is mortal now? Supernatural shifts from Wednesday nights to Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on The CW this fall, premiering October 8th.

July 11th- Once Upon a Time‘s Charming family (Josh Dallas, Ginnifer Goodwin & Jennifer Morrison), Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) set sail on the Jolly Roger for Neverland in the second season finale. Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) joins this fractious group united in their quest to rescue grandson/son Henry (Jared Gilmore) from the clutches of Peter Pan. Will there be something for #CaptainSwan shippers? Belle (Emilie de Ravin) remains behind to protect Storybrooke, but how much can we expect to see filmed there when the main cast is elsewhere?  Once Upon a Time returns on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC this fall in two eleven-episode blocks.

July 17th – The Tomorrow People star Robbie Amell is in town already filming a TV movie and apartment-hunting. Production of the next-stage-in-evolution sci-fi series moves from New York (where pilot was filmed) to Vancouver, reuniting Robbie with his cousin Stephen and turning The CW into the Amell network on Wednesday nights. The Tomorrow People follows Arrow this fall, premiering on October 9th.

July 23rd – Almost Human‘s buddy cop duo for the future is a part-robot human (Karl Urban) and a part-human robot (Michael Ealy). From uber-producer J.J. Abrams and Fringe showrunner Joel Wyman, the new series has some of the same sardonic humour of its predecessor but is a show in its own right. FOX plans to debut it on Monday nights after the World Series, starting November 4th.

July 24th – Bates Motel returns for a second season with mother-and-son Norma (Vera Farmiga) and Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) thinking the worst is over at their 12-room motel and gothic house set in Aldergrove and planning to rebuild their lives in White Pine Bay. Except for one big thing. Did Norman go psycho and kill his teacher Miss Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy)? We won’t know for sure until next year when season two airs on A&E.

July 31st – Once Upon a Time in Wonderland is set in Victorian England where we find poor Alice (Sophie Lowe) trapped in an insane asylum muttering about mermaids, mushrooms, pirates and her lost love Cyrus (Peter Godiat) until she is rescued by the Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha) and the White Rabbit (voiced by John Lithgow) and returned to Wonderland  Originally intended to bridge blocks of mother series Once Upon a Time on Sunday nights, the spinoff will air instead Thursday nights at 8 p.m. this fall on ABC. Filming of its first season will have to start with the premiere since only five scenes were shot here for its pilot presentation.

One other CW show — The 100 — is slated for mid-season, so there’s no word yet on its start date.

  1. You guys are forgetting about the U.S. show Cedar Cove which doesn’t wrap it’s first season until early August.

  2. Thanks. This is a quick post about U.S. shows that start filming next month. Cedar Cove, like Psych, films through July but started its season in the spring. Am sure there will be more to write about Cedar Cove before you and Andie MacDowell wrap the first season.
