SHOOT: ALMOST HUMAN’s Karl Urban & Michael Ealy Film 1×08 in Olympic Village Square

Almost Human set up in the Olympic Village Square yesterday to film scenes of  human and android cops John Kennex (Star Trek’s Karl Urban) and Dorian (Michael Ealy) talking to a witness in 2048 Los Angeles. According to the film notice, a  man has run down the street and attempted to enter a store but been turned away. While the witness is talking to the L.A. police officers, there is the sound of simulated gunfire and someone is shot. From what I could see, Kennex dove out of the way and Dorian was on the ground but it could be anyone in the outdoor coffee place who got shot.

Those familiar with the pilot, which filmed in Vancouver this past spring, will recognize some of the background set dressing: the uniformed synthetic police officer, futuristic police motorcycle and squad car, the Quick Stand Kiosk (offering Stomach Liner, Frozen Treat, Protective Measure, Digital Friend, Mystical Mystical Soup, Sucrose Fix, Experience Enhancer, Elector Enforcer, Mediterranean Spheres, Synthetic Pet, Intellect Expander and Courage Fluid), coffee bar and the masks on background performers, indicating air pollution has worsened in future Los Angeles.

Those familiar with Fringe crew would recognize a lot of faces among those who ringed the set with scrims and lights and those who shot the scenes of Karl Urban and Michael Ealy in Olympic Village Square.

Update: Although these scenes are part of the second episode filmed, You Are Here didn’t air until January 13th, 2014, causing some continuity problems in the relationships. This has to be the worst example of FOX airing the episodes out of order, but with up-to-date inserts. Luckily the Kennex and Dorian bromance is so strong that the ratings are ticking up despite continuity issues.

Today Almost Human is filming at the University of British Columbia. Michael Ealy was spotted on set outside the Life Sciences Centre in a big exterior scene with a technocrane but production has moved inside now.
