For a futuristic show like Almost Human, filming at the Ovaltine Cafe seems an odd choice. Opened in 1942, the historic cafe is a popular set for TV and film productions in Vancouver. You might recognize it from the Jose Chung’s Outer Space episode of The X-Files or from numerous episodes of Da Vinci’s Inquest. But maybe the Ovaltine Cafe is Almost Human’s nod to the futuristic robot film I Robot, starring Will Smith, which shot on location there too.
Almost Human is about half-robot Los Angeles cop John Kennex (Karl Urban) and his half-human robot cop partner Dorian (Michael Ealy) solving crimes in 2048 Los Angeles when all human police officers are paired with “synthetics”.
