Here is the first official photo from the World of Warcraft adaption Warcraft. The Game of Thrones meets Avatar style-movie is a mix of live-action and computer-generated imagery (CGI) and is expected tell the story of the initial meeting of humans and orcs in Azeroth, with sword-wielding human hero Anduin Lothar and hammer-wielding Orc hero Durtan as the central characters. Clancy Brown (Sleepy Hollow), Dominic Cooper (Captain America: First Avenger), Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Toby Kebbell (RocknRolla) and Daniel Wu (Hong Kong movie star) have been cast as humans or orcs, along with local actors Ryan Robbins, Daniel Cudmore and Dan Payne. And Paula Patton (Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol) returned to Vancouver to play a strong female character in the fantasy adventure saga.

Filming in the Vancouver area began January 20th, mainly in studio but also recently in Coquitlam’s abandoned Catalyst Paper Mill on the Fraser River and Maple Ridge’s Jerry Sulina Park along the dyke. This photo shows director Duncan Jones looking at video monitors with an armour-clad Soldier of Lordaeron out of shot on the far left of the photo.

Warcraft is expected to wrap here in mid-May.
