James Bond meets Arrested Development. That’s how the creator of raunchy animated spy spoof Archer describes his series. Adam Reed came up with the idea of secret agent Sterling Archer when he was in Spain and [reading the James Bond paperback series]. Archer is a Sean Connery-style not Daniel Craig-style Bond. Dangerous yes but someone who embraces the 1960s lifestyle of sex, booze, fast cars and spy gadgets. Some have even compared Archer to Mad Men’s Don Draper but Archer’s arrogance is undercut with comic catch phrases, callbacks and notes like his spy codename Duchess and the indignity of having his mother Malory (Jessica Walter) as his boss at the International Secret Intelligence Service in New York. Come hear Reed talk about his wildly-entertaining FX series in the VIFF Industry panel — All Kinds of Funny — moderated by IndieWire editor Liz Shannon Miller on Friday, October 3rd at 4:15 p.m. Click here for tickets.
