“You may be wondering why the red suit? Well that’s so bad guys can’t see me bleed. This guy’s got the right idea. He wore the brown pants.”
Vancouver’s own Ryan Reynolds is back in his hometown this Spring to film big budget feature Deadpool aka The Merc With a Mouth directed by VFX whiz Tim Miller. Deadpool is the character Reynolds played in Wolverine, an X-Men Origins movie starring Hugh Jackman, but that film wasn’t true to the amoral motormouth. In Marvel comic-book lore. Wade Winston Wilson is a wise-cracking gun-for-hire with cancer who partakes in military experiments to cure himself by replicating Wolverine’s mutant ability to heal quickly. The experiment succeeds except Wilson ends up terribly scarred. In Wolverine, Deadpool was surgically altered and mouthless. Not this time.
Deadpool started shooting its freeway stunt sequence on a closed Georgia Viaduct to downtown Vancouver this Easter weekend. The Merc With a Mouth launches himself off a freeway overpass down to an SUV on the road below, crashing through the sun roof into the back seat with the bad guys. See the test footage Reynolds made with director Tim Miller which helped green light the movie.

The SUV crashes and rolls. Bad guys in an SUV behind the first one get out and fire rounds at the overturned vehicle. Deadpool pops up, waves and taunts them with a few quips. Which is the part I saw being filmed this morning….Hope they”re wearing their brown pants.

Thanks again to the city of Vancouver for allowing us to make #deadpool here at home. Particularly commuters affected by the viaduct closure
