UPDATED with the season finale spoiler photos. Emma Swan becomes the Dark One.
Once Upon a Time’s 2-hour season finale next Sunday pulls a giant switcheroo when the Author writes villains as heroes — Knight Rumplestiltskin — and heroes as villains — Evil Snow White. That’s what happens in Fairytale Land. What about Storybrooke?
ABC synopsis:
Operation Mongoose, Part 1 and Part 2: The Author proves to be a formidable wild card and forges an alliance with Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin. Emma/the Saviour, her parents Snow and Charming, Hook and Regina scramble to stop them, but when Mr. Gold and the Author turn the tables on heroes and villains alike, the prospect of any happy outcome appears worlds away. Henry discovers he has big shoes to fill as he steps up to save his family before the story’s final page is turned. It’s a race to the finish, and everything culminates with a shocking twist that will leave the residents of Storybrooke reeling.
Storybrooke.
The Charmings (Ginnifer Goodwin & Josh Dallas), Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), Emma (Jennifer Morrison), Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) are blown about by an unseen force in Steveston as Storybrooke.

Emma takes Regina’s place as a human tether for the darkness.

Jennifer Morrison told Fan Expo Vancouver about the physical difficulty of this overnight shoot: “Really cold…industrial strength fans….adrenaline keeps you going…wake up next [day]…not sure if you’re going to ever be able to walk again.”
Regina stunt. She is [wrapped in darkness] until Emma takes her place.
Stunt wires.
Once Upon a Time fans from all over the United States gathered in Steveston for the overnight shoot thanks to Richmond Tourism’s Visit Storybrooke campaign. Flashing strobe lights turn everything blue.
Cast and crew still films at 3:00 a.m. on April 2nd in the intersection. One fan watched from her window seat above me in the Steveston Hotel.
